Microsoft Teams - Low data mode has arrived

Low data mode has arrived and Microsoft Teams are helping you stop blasting through your data, so you can have video calls with peace of mind.

No matter if you are working from home or are back in the office, video conferring is here to stay! One of the favourites remain Microsoft Teams, as it has shown amazing features to help us all stay connected while apart.

Video conferencing means less commuting time to get from place to place, less flights across borders, less time wasted on train journeys. Instead, video conferencing is giving us the freedom to work where we want, and when we wanted.

The last bit, being able to work anywhere we are, brought a new problem as we saw users blasting through their data. As a result, video calls will quickly drain through your battery of your device, whether that being your laptop or smartphone, even worse- they use a lot more data than you would normally do on text messages or phone calls.

But no more!

Last year Microsoft added ‘offline mode’ to the Teams software, which allowed users to queue the messages to be sent later, when you once again would be online.

Now they have taken it a step further.

Low Data Mode Is Here

Microsoft have given further details on how low data mode works in the Teams app. It allows you to limit the amount of data you use during video calls, no matter if you save data directly onto your mobile or you might have video calls while being in a place with poor connection.

How does Low Data Mode work

With low data mode you’ll be allowed to cap the amount of data used during a video call. By setting a cap, Teams will make sure it doesn’t use more than ‘allowed’ during any video call, giving you full control. Based on your settings, Teams will adapt to your network connection, to make sure that your video calls are crystal clear whenever you need them.

“Whether you want to preserve data or are in a location with a poor or limited network connection, sometimes it’s helpful to limit the amount of data you’re using during a video call. A new low data mode allows users to cap the amount of data that will be used during Teams video calls as well as establish different settings based on network availability.” (Microsoft)
